London Derby Preview: Arsenal v Chelsea

The premier league leader, Chelsea will make a short trip across London to Emirates stadium in this weekend. Arsenal bounced back from their defeat at Stadium of Light with a 2-0 win over Standard Liege in UEFA Champion League. However, Arsenal have won just one home match in 6 meeting with Chelsea in all competition since they last took the Premier League title, 2003-2004 season.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Premier League, London Derby

The young Gunners are playing excellent football this season and scored 36 goals in 12 matches. Arsenal seems struggle to score after missing their top scorer, Robin Van Persie. They failed to score for the first time in this season in the 1-0 defeat against Sunderland. The Dutchman is playing as the central figure in Arsene Wenger’s new system. Gunners might struggle to keep possession without hold up play by Van Persie as John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho will definitely give the physical challenge to the striker.

Chelsea wins all their last 4 Premier League matches by scoring 14 goals and without conceding any goal. Drogba and Anelka are in great form in this season. Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen will face a real tough ride against the strength of the big Ivory Coast hitman and the lightning pace of the Frenchman. Drogba is having a good record against Arsenal. He scored eight goals in his last eight appearances against the Gunners in all competitions.

The Luck Battle: Drogba vs Arshavin
If Arsenal is looking to improve the disappointing record, they might need to rely on Andrey Arshavin, with the Russian playmaker proving to be something of a lucky charm. He has started 20 Premier League games since joining the club, winning 14 and losing just one, while the Gunners have lost three of the five matches he has not started.

Chelsea, though, has plenty of talismanic stars of their own, with Didier Drogba arguably the most important. He has scored eight goals in his last eight meetings with Arsenal, ensuring that the Blues won seven and drew one of those fixtures.
