Manchester United reduced their gap with the Liverpool to 5 points, with two games in hand, after stunning Chelsea with 3-0 win at Old Trafford. Vidic scored the match winning goal before the half time while Rooney and Berbatov then scored another two goals for Manchester United. They are not conceded any goal in their last 8 games in the Premier League and 8 consecutive win at Old Trafford. Chelsea remained second and four points off top spot but having, like Liverpool, now played 21 games.
The Creative Corner:
Manchester United got the corner which is controversial. Rooney knew exactly what he was doing when he rolled the ball into, then out of the quadrant. Giggs ambled over, crossed and Ronaldo scored with a near-post header. The referee said no. Rooney reacted with fury at the perceived injustice of it all, surrounding the linesman while Chelsea was merely bemused. Manchester United then retakes the corner. This time Berbatov got there first, flicking the ball on towards the far post where Vidic arrived and score the first goal.
Rooney then increased the lead in the 63rd minute when the England striker pushed his leg between the Ashley Cole’s who seemed to be in control of the situation after Patrice Evra’s fine cross. Berbatov set the seal on a comprehensive win three minutes from time with a near-post volley from a Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick. [Watch The Goals Here!]
Man of the Match: Berbatov
No doubt, Berbatov really stood out and he deserved it. He was responsible for two goals and played a role in the other one. He did very well in holding the ball when necessary and controlling the action in midfield.
