Shola Ameobi has signed a three-year extension to his Newcastle contract that will keep him at St James’ Park until the summer of 2012.
Ameobi, whose previous deal had been due to expire at the end of the current campaign, penned a new deal this morning to end speculation about his future.
“I’m delighted to sign a new deal and commit my future to Newcastle United,” said the striker.
Nicky Butt and Steve Harper have also been linked with new contracts, but the duo, who are also due to become free agents in the summer, are still to sign new deals.
