Arsenal Targets Newcastle Trio

A report in the News of the World this morning claims Arsene Wenger is chasing after three Newcastle players: Shay Given, Steven Taylor and Charles N’Zogbia.

“The three pronged raid” is “an attempt to fix the Gunners’ flagging season” according to Martin Taylor in the Sunday version of The Sun.

It is believed that Wenger has sent his scouts to search for a quality keeper to replace the error-prone Manuel Almunia and Shay Given fits the bill. The Republic of Ireland custodian is thought to be worth eight million pounds alongside wages of 60,000 pounds a week.

Steven Taylor has struggled for games in recent weeks – the last game he started was the 2-0 win over Aston Villa at the beginning of November.

Whilst Charles N’Zogbia has recently voiced his desire to leave St. James’ Park, his contract though runs out in 2011/2012, not at the end of the season as has been claimed in some quarters.
