Young Gunners To Play Against Wigan

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he will be, as expected, fielding his young reserves against Wigan in the Carling Cup.

Wenger has long used the League Cup to blood the younger members of his squad, who have little or no first team experience.

In the previous round Wenger’s young guns tore Championship outfit Sheffield United apart as they sealed a stunning 6-0 win.

Wenger has confirmed that much of that team will face Wigan on Tuesday evening.

“You will see 90 per cent of the team who played against Sheffield United in the last round,” Wenger said.

“We will keep faith in our philosophy and we will not change it now. That is very important for the club.

“I am happy with that because that is the approach I have had for a very long time.

“I always gave the same answer – you don’t look at the passport, you look at the quality.

“When England produce quality you put them in and England produce quality now and I think very, very quickly you will see that in the Arsenal football team.

“It is just a consequence of the quality.”
